Wild Catalina is a series of digitally developed hand-finished monoprints from 2000 to 2005. The work was inspired by a weather-worn roll of Kodak Vericolor negative film shot in 1986 at the wildlife refuge on Catalina Island (26 mles west of the port of Long Beach, CA). From 2000 to 2001 I created (35) 9"x12" digital four color dry wax and color pencils prints on Bristol board. The abstract quality of the work was inspired by the separated dyes and soft focus of the damaged film cassette. Later in 2005, I made (5) 24"x36" oil paintings to complete ihe series.
